I believe that a force with a higher thinking, a force that has always been and that we cannot see, has created all that we can see. I call that force God.
I believe that God called a people God named Israel into community relationship, and through human agents has led Israel through the course of history, saving Israel again and again when Israel broke covenant with God.
I believe that God the Creator, through God the Holy Spirit, conceived God the Son, whom we know as Jesus–or Immanuel, “God with us”.
I believe that God, in Jesus, lived among us ... teaching, healing, ministering, and leading, with compassion and love, that this compassion and love reflected God’s good Will for all God’s people in every time and place, and that God’s saving grace–infinite and beyond our understanding–was made manifest in God’s only Son, our Lord, who was innocently crucified on the cross on our behalf, carrying our sins to his physical death.
I believe that God the Creator raised God the Son, overcoming sin an death triumphantly and victoriously, so that we, whom God created and loves and whom God continues to recreate through God the Holy Spirit, might be able to believe, and in believing, find life abundant for all of eternity.
I believe in Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord, incarnate of the Father, fully human and fully divine, crucified for my sins and resurrected by God to reconcile the world once and for all.
I believe this not because I have seen God for myself ... not because I have put my fingers in the scars on Jesus hands and sides ... but on the witness of those who have written their testimony in what we have ordained as Holy Scripture.
I believe that Jesus Christ, the Living Word, is God’s special revelation of God’s self and that the Holy Scriptures are the unique and authoritative witness to God and the directives for God’s people to live according to God’s purpose made known in Jesus Christ and accomplished through the Holy Spirit at work in God’s people.
I believe that in the company of believers ... in the sacrament of baptism, in the bread and the cup, and in God’s steadfast love and unfailing grace reflected on the faces of those who have experienced Christ themselves, we experience Christ fully.
I believe that God speaks to the church in community worship on a regular basis through God’s Holy Word proclaimed through contemporary human agents, and that as Christ’s body at work in the world, it is our privilege and responsibility to support the sharing of that Word with resources of our time, money and talents, empowered by the Holy Spirit.
that God has ordained me, as God has ordained each of us, in baptism,
for God’s work in the world, and that by the grace of God, the example
of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, I am prepared to answer
